Beschrijving

Groothertog Cosimo I de' Medici gaf Niccolò Pericoli, bekend als Il Tribolo, opdracht om de Grotta degli Animali in de Villa di Castello te bouwen in 1539. Het werk werd later voltooid door Giorgio Vasari en Giambologna. Tribolo ontwierp ook het hydraulische systeem dat de fonteinen voedde: meer dan honderd stralen komen uit het gewelf, de vloer en de monden van dieren. Acqua neemt dit als formele referentie: aquatisch en bloemig, opgebouwd rond peer, fresia en lotus. Van I Giardini Medicei.
