Patchouli entered European perfumery by an unexpected route: Indian shawls exported via the Silk Road were wrapped in patchouli leaves to protect them from moths during the voyage. The distinctive scent transferred to the fabric and connoted the prestige of Indian textiles. This Eau de Cologne opens with bergamot and geranium, with patchouli and jasmine at the heart, and patchouli, sandalwood and musk at the base.
