Category: Woody

Peau d'Espagne Eau de Cologne, drawing from one of the oldest traditions in European perfumery. Opens with Calabrian bergamot, jasmine and carnation. Cedarwood, neroli and violet leaves at the heart. Civet and birchwood at the base. Smoky and woody.

Description

As early as the 16th century, hides were treated with perfumed ointments of jasmine, rose and tuberose to scent gloves worn by ladies and gentlemen at court. Peau d’Espagne, or Spanish Leather, takes this practice as its compositional reference. The Officina formulation opens with Calabrian bergamot, jasmine and carnation flowers, develops through cedarwood, neroli and violet leaf, and closes on civet and birchwood.

Lucy L. ★★★★★

The bergamot on top is so bright it practically sparkles, but it melts into that cedarwood beautifully within an hour. I keep catching whiffs of the violet leaf on my skin hours later, which never happens with other colognes I’ve tried.

Violet C. ★★★★★

The bergamot opening is so bright and zesty, but the violet leaves and cedarwood give it that old-school depth I love. Lasts a good few hours on my skin, and the jasmine comes through just enough to keep it from feeling too heavy.

Zoe I. ★★★★★

The cedarwood and violet leaves settle into a soft, warm dry-down that lasts well past lunch—exactly the old-school elegance I was hoping for. The carnation gives it a subtle spice that keeps it from feeling dated.
