Aromatic resins including amber reached Florence through Eastern Mediterranean trade routes during the Medici period, when the court maintained active networks for sourcing precious materials from distant markets. Bergamot, cultivated among the Medici's documented citrus collections, meets eastern resinous materials in a composition that is warm and resinous at the heart, deepening into woody persistence at the base.
